Meeting at Night by robert browning
http://www.poetry.com/lovepoems/lovepoems.asp

1The gray sea and the long black land;
And the yellow half moon large and low;
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,
And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.
2Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;
Three fields to cross till a farm appears;
A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
And blue spurt of a lighted match,
And a voice less loud, through its joys and fears,
Than the two hearts beating each to each!

I think the theme of this poem is about a guy that is on a boat in the sean and he wants to be home really bad after a long time at sea. What hes saying about love is that he loves to be at home and on land after a long time at sea. The metaphor type that this auther is useing is one that the author never says that we really does want to be home but oyu can kind of tell from the way he talks about the land.
